A long time ago I went to a couple of meetings of the Preston Speculative Fiction Group, organised by Bryan Talbot (of Nemesis the Warlock fame).

If the Time Meddlers meetings are half as interesting and stimulating, they will be absolutely brilliant.

What I enjoy is that we've got a lot of people with a wide-range of interests, so although we start on Doctor Who, the conversation can go anywhere. biggrin.gif

It's also nice to have a whole pub floor to ourselves. biggrin.gif

This is one of those things I'd find pretty good fun but would need a disguise to attend in case anyone saw me!

I know it's shocking isn't it. I usually like to be geeky and/or nerdy in private but I guess I'm 'out' now; I even played msn Star Wars last week unsure.gif

MSN Star Wars?

Anyway, you're perfectly welcome. We're not all The Comic Book Guy. Some of us can even pass for normal. biggrin.gif

I have it on good authority that Smurf's other half is far too cool and debonair to invent any such thing.

In light of the latest news, I just thought I'd advertise our next meeting, which is tonight (Wednesday the 5th) at the Angels. Hopefully see you there!

You could be on to something Mr Fell - I've always believed that taxi-meters occupied an area of time and space with rather different rules to our own.

Haha, well I see it being an older (looking) actor next time. I heard James Nesbitt mooted at one point, and I thought that could be quite interesting. So long as it's someone quite different, though, I don't really mind. I'd like to see a different element to the character (maybe screwdriver-less?) in his next incarnation - and with a new showrunner it's entirely possible. We'll just have to see, I guess.

Can't see James Nesbitt as the Doctor - I wouldn't believe he was superbly intelligent like Who.

I originally believed that the Dr became younger with each regeneration - starting out as a pretty old man, and gradually getting younger - this would pose him some difficulties when he starts regenerating as a twelve year old, but it would be a consequence of him being so careless with his past incarnations. This rule no longer seems to apply, so there doesn't seem to be any particular logic behind how he regenerates, or if there is, it's a logic that lies beyond human comprehension.

In this case, I can't see any reason why the Doctor should not regenerate in female form. We have women bishops now, so why not women time lords? She could find herself a young male companion for the show.

Personally I'd like to see Dylan Moran as the Doctor with Bill Bailey as his assistant. Otherwise why not a female Dr? They've had Captain Jack as a gay/bisexual character. How about Jennifer Saunders?
It's political correctness gone mad! The anguished cry of the frustrated bigot

"Greed: It ain't going anywhere. People can change anything they want to. And that means everything in the world. Without people you're nothing. That's my spiel." Joe Strummer 1952-2002

Bill Bailey would love being on Dr Who. He could play all the characters single handed - and re-write the theme tune

Joanna Lumley would make a good female doctor.
